Do you, or have you, used affirmations to help create new results in your life?
I stumbled across pregnancy affirmations the day before our first embryo transfer in an IVF cycle and it was a revelation to me that I could use them to help me in my quest to have a baby. I had a beautiful feeling wash over me when I started to read them, so I continued to do so on a regular basis even though I didn’t understand what was happening in my mind.
I’ve since come to experience the power of affirmations in every part of my life. I read, write, say and listen to affirmations daily now – to feel good, and to strengthen new beliefs in parts of my life where I desire change. It’s something we focus on in my coaching with Mums and I created an Affirmation Card set for women trying to conceive to support them on their journey.
So what is an affirmation?
An affirmation is a short, positive, present-tense, high-impact statement that can have a profound effect when impressed on the subconscious through repetition.
Every thought you think and every word you speak is an affirmation. You’re using affirmations in every moment—whether you know it or not. Unfortunately, much of what you are affirming is negative… and that doesn’t create good experiences for you.
But you can create positive affirmations and use them to either help eliminate something from your life or help create something new in your life.
But how do you do that? How do you come up with affirmations that allow you to consciously create your life in a way that supports and pleases you?
Very carefully.
You see, words have a very strong effect on the subconscious mind so you must choose them wisely, and make the statement relatively short and simple. Because, although the subconscious mind is extremely powerful, it perceives things in a straightforward way.
Start the affirmation with ‘I am so happy and grateful now that…’
This phrase is a powerful introduction to any good affirmation because it immediately puts you into the positive vibration. A happy and grateful mind amplifies your ability to manifest your desires. As you read the affirmation, feel happy NOW that you are already in possession of your desire.
With a positive affirmation you are creating a positive thought that flows on to your feelings, actions and ultimately to your results.
How to use Affirmations
Choose and focus on one or two affirmations at a time that resonate with you. Get involved in the repetition of them for a period of time such as 30 days, and then you can change or add another one or two. This will begin to change your subconscious beliefs.
Repetition is critical! Read, say and write your affirmation as often as you can (at least once daily). Put it where you’ll read it often, make a recording of it on your phone and play it on a loop. Be sure to write it out daily. This is key, particularly so if the affirmation is not in line with your subconscious programming and you feel sceptical or negative in any way as you read it. Impressing the affirmation over and over on the subconscious fixes it in the mind and only then will you create the results you really want. Commit to making it a habit as part of your daily routine.
Read your affirmation with as much belief and emotion as you can.
Feel the feeling (joy, relief, happiness, love, etc) NOW that you are already in possession of what you want. As you read, say and write the affirmation, use your imagination to create a picture in your mind and tap into the feeling of it.
