Have you come up with your word for 2023?
Is this a ritual for you too, or a foreign concept?
If you don’t know what I’m talking about, your ‘word’ for the year is a theme and intention that underpins everything about how you’re going to show up for that year (think, feel, act).
Last year my word was Thrive.
In 2021 it was Leverage.
2020 was Effortless.
2019 was Abundance.
I can’t take the credit for my 2023 word. A beautiful friend/colleague/client, Sarah, shared her word with me and I instantly knew it was ‘the one’ for me too!
My word for 2023 is BRAVE.
Sarah’s such a great gal and has bought us both a hot pink t-shirt with ‘brave’ printed across the front. When I wear mine, I feel my brave-ometer go up. I think brave, I feel brave, I do brave. Small gestures can have a big impact on your vibration and how you embody your intentions!
The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines brave as:
having or showing mental or moral strength to face danger, fear, or difficulty : having or showing courage
Brave does not mean being fearless.
For me, brave is:
Taking consistent aligned action in the face of fear.
Staying on the path of wholeheartedly believing I am always enough.
Doing the inner work.
My clients, who are brave everyday.
Knowing the what and why, but not the how, and being okay with that.
Continued faith in the unseen.
Living from the inside out, not from the outside in.
Protecting my energy.
Creating white space and not filling it.
Sitting with all my feelings and not using old habits to escape them.
Holding the big vision.
Saying no when the recovering inner people pleaser wants to say yes.
Saying ‘I don’t know but I’m in this with you.’
Saying ‘this is good enough Benita.’
High-fiving the woman in the mirror every day.
Showing up for what’s easy to do, and just as easy not to do.
Doing the illogical.
Brave is how I’m being, and how I’m doing 2023. I’m not going to ‘try’ to be brave, I’m affirming that I AM brave, and there’s a big difference.
What does brave mean for you, and what’s your word for 2023? ????
